What is my tax bracket?

Your tax bracket is the highest rate that applies to your taxable income, also called your marginal rate. It is based on taxable income, which is your income minus the standard deduction ($16,100 single, $32,200 married filing jointly, $24,150 head of household in 2026) and pre-tax deductions. Being in the 22% bracket does not mean all your income is taxed at 22%: the first dollars are taxed at 10%, then 12%, and only the part above each threshold is taxed at the higher rate. A single filer earning $85,000 has taxable income of $68,900 and is in the 22% bracket.
