Zakat Calculator

Calculate the zakat you owe on your savings, gold, silver, investments and business assets, and check whether you reach the nisab.

Enter your wealth in any one currency, and today’s gold or silver price per gram in that same currency. Zakat is 2.5% of net wealth held for a lunar year, if it is at or above the nisab.

How zakat is calculated

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam: an obligatory charity of 2.5% of your net zakatable wealth, due once a year on wealth you have held for a full lunar year (hawl) and that reaches the nisab. This calculator adds up your cash, gold, silver, investments, business stock and money owed to you, subtracts debts that are due, compares the result with the nisab and gives the zakat due.

What is the nisab?

The nisab is the minimum amount of wealth before zakat is due. It is based on either 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. Many scholars and organizations use the silver nisab because it is lower and so includes more people who can give; others use gold. Enter today’s price per gram in your currency and choose the basis you follow.

What countsDetails
Cash and savingsMoney in hand and in bank accounts
Gold and silverHeld as savings or investment; rules differ for jewelry worn regularly
InvestmentsShares, funds and similar; some scholars allow zakat on the zakatable part only
Business assetsStock for sale and cash, not fixed assets such as equipment
Money owed to youLoans you expect to be repaid
DeductibleDebts and bills that are due now

Example

Net wealth of 8,000 held for a year. With silver at 0.90 per gram the silver nisab is 612.36 × 0.90 = 551.12, so wealth is above it and zakat is 8,000 × 2.5% = 200.

This calculator is a guide, not a religious ruling. Opinions differ on jewelry, retirement funds, property and shares, so ask a qualified scholar or your local mosque if your situation is complex.

Frequently asked questions

How is zakat calculated?

Add your zakatable wealth, subtract debts due, check that the total reaches the nisab and multiply by 2.5%. If your net wealth is 8,000 and above the nisab, zakat is 200.

What is the nisab in 2026?

It is a quantity, not a fixed sum: 87.48 g of gold or 612.36 g of silver. The cash value changes with metal prices, so use today’s price per gram.

Should I use the gold or silver nisab?

Both are used. The silver nisab is lower and more commonly recommended today because it brings more people into giving; follow the opinion of your scholar or organization.

Do I pay zakat on my home or car?

No, not on a home you live in or a car for personal use. Property bought to sell or rent out is treated differently, so ask a scholar.

When is zakat due?

When your wealth has been at or above the nisab for one full lunar year. Many people choose Ramadan to pay.
